August 6th, 2020 – KNOW HUNTSVILLE acquires HUNTSVILLEMUSIC.COM in the most highly-anticipated, badass local merger in recent Huntsville memory.
This past Thursday, Carl Thomas, co-founder of HuntsvilleMusic.com, met with Grace Treutel and Tom Patterson of Know Huntsville outside of Honest Coffee downtown for a very important socially distant meeting – the handing over of HuntsvilleMusic.com.
Carl and his partner, Parker Dieffenbach, founded HuntsvilleMusic.com in 2016 and spent the next few years working to establish it as the go-to calendar for live music in Huntsville.
Says Carl of the sale, “We can’t even begin to explain the excitement we have over handing the reins of HuntsvilleMusic.com to the great people at Know Huntsville. Even though the work we’ve put into HuntsvilleMusic.com is something we’re incredibly proud of, we now look to the future and all the innovative ways our music scene will evolve with Know Huntsville at the center of all the excitement!”
Now, Grace and Tom have big plans for the future of HuntsvilleMusic.com. Tom’s impetus for jumping into this project feet-first center around furthering a mission he started in 2011 with the founding of Know Huntsville, the premier award-winning podcast of the 256.
Tom says, “After participating in a round table during the Sound Diplomacy music audit, I began to understand just how big of an impact a live music calendar could have on our city. I saw the strides HuntsvilleMusic.com had taken toward that goal, and the next steps seemed obvious to me. I think we at Know Huntsville are in a unique position to further their work thanks to the connections we’ve made through our diverse slate of shows as well as the support we’ve received from this awesome community.
Know Huntsville has always had a reputation for promoting for the sake of promoting – it was always about showcasing the great people and culture of our city. HuntsvilleMusic.com is the natural next step for this, as we shine a spotlight on our robust musical talent and find ways to build out our music scene.”
Grace’s motivations, while in-line with the audit and the mission statements of both Know Huntsville and HuntsvilleMusic.com, are a little different.
“I’ve lived in Huntsville for just under three years and I’m so in love with it, which isn’t a unique experience. Oftentimes people come through here or move here and are surprised with how vibrant and rich the culture is – I was one of these people. The city and locals put so much effort into not only maintaining their culture but building upon it, as evidenced by efforts like the Sound Diplomacy music audit.
When the opportunity to be a part of building something great for this gorgeous city through HuntsvilleMusic.com presented itself, I jumped on it. I want to give back to Huntsville and embrace it the way it embraced me, a third culture kid who now has a culture.”
As for next steps for HuntsvilleMusic.com? Stay tuned, because it’s about to get buckwild. Just kidding – we gotta make it out of this pandemic first.
But once we do, HuntsvilleMusic.com will be ready to serve as your one-stop shop for all things music in the Huntsville and Tennessee Valley area.
Let’s do this, HSV.
Grace is the Content Director of HuntsvilleMusic.com and lives in Madison, AL, which really isn’t that far, guys.
